Mommy Makeover

The aim of the mommy makeover is to restore the shape and appearance of a woman’s body after childbearing. Many women notice changes in their bodies in the post-pregnancy period. Different areas of the body can be addressed and “reshaped”, most commonly the breasts, abdomen, waist, genitalia and buttocks. A mommy makeover is typically performed as a single-stage procedure. There are many techniques used to perform a mommy makeover, and many factors should be taken into consideration when choosing which techniques are best. The mommy makeover can include breast lift, breast augmentation, tummy tuck, liposuction, buttock restoration, arm lift or thigh lift. The scope of the operation depends on the patients’ needs and requests. Sometimes the operations can be performed in two sessions which will be decided by the surgeon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Depending on the procedures performed, total recovery is generally in the 4 to 6 week period to return to full unrestricted activities and exercise. However, patients mostly return to their daily activities at the end of 7-10 days.

There is always scarring associated with surgery. An abdominoplasty, a breast lift, as well as a breast augmentation all involve some type of scarring; however, these generally heal very well and are well hidden by any bikini or bra garments. We also recommend silicone based gels in order to help the scars to fade away in time.

Prefferably when you have returned to your pre-pregnancy weight if possible. In addition, we recommend waiting at least three to six months following breast-feeding so that the breasts may return to or involute to their new natural position.

If a patient is considering having more children it would be unwise to have a mommy makeover. Additional pregnancies would have the same effects on the breast and abdomen as the initial pregnancy did. Therefore you may require further revisionary procedures. While there is no contraindication to becoming pregnant after a mommy makeover it would be much more practical to wait until after the childbearing years have been completed.

A mommy makeover is a significant commitment and investment. We would hope that the patient would be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle and maintain an ideal body weight postoperatively as with any healthy lifestyle this would consist of avoiding smoking and excess weight gain. With regards to the breasts, we do recommend patients continue to wear breast support to minimize gravitational effects on the breasts. In addition, it goes without saying that pregnancies after a mommy makeover would certainly have a negative effect on the recent procedures.
